I am not a writer.

Writing is not my forté. For almost every paper I ever wrote through school, getting started was a struggle from elementary through college. I had trouble creating an outline, first drafts were nearly non-existent (unless required), and I would ultimately find myself sitting in front of the keyboard staring at the screen.

I don't know if I hoped the words would start writing themselves or what. I'd start writing a couple of sentences, not like what I wrote, delete it all, and start over. Now, I know it was probably due to a bit of undiagnosed ADHD (struggle focusing, but not hyperactivity).

Eventually, after what seemed like hours, I was able to pull together the thoughts and direction I wanted my piece to go, and I'd be in the zone. It would just flow, and within a couple of hours, I'd have a finished piece. And I'd do well, typically receiving good grades.

So if writing was something that was a struggle despite the positive results, why would I decide to creat a blog and write?

Simple. To get better at it.

Of course, there are some other reasons to write, like SEO content, sharing knowledge, establishing trust with prospects, getting thoughts out on ‘paper’. Still, the main reason is I want to get better at it. As with most things, I've gotten better at web design and web development because I'm doing it all the time and looking to improve. When I go to the gym, over time, I can lift more and run longer. I want to get better at writing, but I don't do it often and end up sputtering along. So here we are.

I plan to write about things that I find interesting, things like web design, brand design, brand strategy, web development, Apple, Tesla, SpaceX, remote working, freelancing, life events, and who knows what else. I suppose if it’s something I'm interested in and I think I might have an interesting or different perspective, I'll try and put it into a post.

I don't know exactly how often I'm going to post something new, but my goal in the coming year will be to post at least once a month, more if I can. Some posts might be long-form (1,000+ words); others could be shorter, brief commentary, link-sharing posts. As I write, I think I'll find a flow and rhythm to what I write, how much I write, and how often I write.

If you have any suggestions about what I can do to get better or if there's something you'd like me to write about, email me at If you like something I wrote, I'd love it if you'd share it with others.
